Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, has declared that it will not certify 2017 National Senior Certificate (NSC) candidates who sat for the NSC examination without presenting valid identity documents (IDs).
In light of this decision, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has indicated that they will request Umalusi to grant a concession to candidates who sat the 2017 NSC examinations without producing IDs. However, the DBE has noted that from 2019, IDs will be compulsory for all NSC examination candidates, until such time that this aspect of the NSC policy is amended.
