This document is meant to guide Schools in dealing with diversity in the workplace within the relevant legal framework. The provisions of the Employment Equity Act and Labour Relations Act are relevant, as well as Constitutional principles and case law developments.
Although some sample policy provisions are provided in the attachment, Schools should develop their own policy documents in this regard, which should be reviewed regularly to remain current, practical and in line with developments in the law.
The ISASA document A Guide to Effective School Transformation and Diversity Management will also be helpful for reference purposes and policy decisions.
Although many of the principles herein apply also to the greater School environment, the emphasis of this document is on the School as an employer.
