ISASA membership includes access to Public Liability Insurance, providing additional protection over and above a school’s own policy. This umbrella cover strengthens overall risk management and offers member schools greater assurance.
Member schools located outside South Africa (within SADC) are included under the policy. However, all claims are governed by South African law. Claim payments are made to ISASA, which will in turn disburse funds to the relevant member school.
Notification of Potential Claims
Schools are required to notify the insurer and their broker in writing, as soon as reasonably possible, of any incident that may give rise to a claim. All related documentation, including correspondence, summonses, or legal processes, must be forwarded without delay.
Where a potential matter is reported during the policy period, any subsequent claim arising from that matter will be treated as having been made during the period of insurance, even if it is formally submitted after the policy has expired.
An unintentional failure to notify will not be regarded as a breach of this requirement where it was not reasonably apparent at the time that the incident could give rise to a claim.
Schools are encouraged to download the 2026 policy wording and share it with their broker to ensure that underlying insurance arrangements are appropriately aligned with the terms and conditions of the umbrella cover.
