The Government Gazette 26663, No. 975 of 20 August 2004 introduced regulations relating to safety measures in independent schools.
In terms of the policy regulations, all independent schools are declared drug-free and dangerous object-free zones. The regulations further elaborate on how drugs and dangerous objects should be excluded from independent school premises. The regulations also address access to independent school premises and the rights of the school owner or principal in this regard.
The policy regulations also discuss with visits to independent schools by public representatives, political office bearers, the media and parents, and how such visits should be handled by both visitors and the school.
Lastly, the regulations cover general matters such as display of signs relating to searches, cooperation with police and advocacy campaigns amongst school stakeholders.
