A Visitorship Report by Rene Swart, St Stithians College
In November 2013, I was privileged to be awarded a visitorship by ISASA to visit “green” schools overseas. In June 2014, over a period of two and a half weeks, I attended the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) Conference at Harvard and MIT in Boston, visited four schools in Boston and three schools in the UK.
The focus of the ISCN Conference this year was on Pushing Boundaries: Leveraging collective action for global impact. The conference presented a powerful opportunity for participants to examine today’s emerging critical issues for sustainability and to explore strategies centered on:
- Innovation – Pushing boundaries to generate new ideas
- Collaboration – Leveraging collective action
- Scalability – Impacting globally
- Metrics – Measuring outcomes
