On Wednesday, 4 May 2022, the South African Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla, extended the period for public comments on these National Health Regulations by three months with effect from Thursday, 5 May 2022 – making the new closing date for submission of comments Tuesday, 5 July 2022.
In the interim, the Department of Health has gazetted Regulations Relating to the Surveillance and the Control of Notifiable Medical Conditions: Amendment. Subsequent to the Amended Regulations being gazetted, the DoH issued a Media Statement on Thursday, 5 May 2022, which seeks to clarify the Regulations.
The ISASA Legal and Policy Department has drafted a memorandum that highlights key aspects of the limited Regulations, which are in force with effect from Thursday, 5 May 2022 and are applicable for the next 3 months, until the new regulations are published.
