Criminal Records and Vetting of School Staff

In March 2024, Lebogang Montjane was asked by the Daily Maverick to comment on a TPN credit bureau report that 3,3% of teachers have a criminal record, and that many of these were undisclosed to their employers.

He stressed that ISASA had communicated staff vetting requirements to member schools on several occasions. I also noted that most schools experienced significant delays in obtaining clearance certificates from the relevant statutory organisation.
