SPORT COACH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER
Western Province Preparatory School (WPPS) is an independent Anglican school for boys. We are seeking an innovative, creative, dedicated and enthusiastic educator with the necessary skills and experience to join our dynamic Sports Department as Sport Coach & Physical Education Teacher.
This is an annual fixed-term contract, renewable annually, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, commencing 1 January 2027 or sooner. The successful candidate will contribute meaningfully to our Physical Education, developmental sport and after-school sports programmes from Grade N to Grade 7, working collaboratively with a passionate team committed to excellence in boys’ education and the development of the whole child.
The successful candidate will contribute across the following areas:
SPORTS SKILLS | GRADE N & R
- Deliver fun, engaging and developmentally appropriate movement sessions.
- Develop fundamental movement skills, co-ordination, balance, ball skills and spatial awareness.
- Foster early physical literacy and a love of movement and play.
- Create safe, nurturing and inclusive environments in which every boy can participate and develop.
INTEGRATED SPORT | GRADE 1 & 2
- Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate multi-sport sessions.
- Develop foundational skills across a range of sporting codes.
- Deliver structured, purposeful and enjoyable sessions.
- Promote teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION | GRADE N–7
- Teach curriculum-aligned Physical Education lessons.
- Develop fitness, agility, co-ordination and fundamental movement skills.
- Encourage lifelong participation in physical activity.
- Assess learner progress and contribute to reporting where required.
- Maintain high standards of safety, supervision and behaviour management.
AFTER-SCHOOL SPORT | U8–U13
- Coach one or more seasonal sports as assigned by the Head of Sport.
- Plan and deliver effective practices and prepare teams for inter-school fixtures.
- Develop sporting skills while promoting participation and purposeful competition.
- Use sport to develop character, resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Manage teams professionally and provide constructive feedback.
The successful candidate will also be expected to:
- Assist with the organisation of sports facilities, equipment and resources.
- Support sports events, festivals and inter-house competitions.
- Communicate effectively with boys, staff and parents.
- Contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
- Follow school policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety and child protection.
- Participate in professional development and staff training.

Relevant teaching, Physical Education or sports coaching qualifications and experience will be an advantage.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the sporting journey of our boys – from their first movement experiences in Grade N through to senior prep sport in Grade 7.
