SOCIAL MEDIA AND MARKETING INTERN

Fixed-Term Internship: 6–12 Months
Commencement Date: Negotiable

Pretoria Chinese School, an independent institution committed to academic excellence, holistic development and cultural diversity, invites applications for the position of Social Media and Marketing Intern on a fixed-term basis of between 6 and 12 months.

We are looking for a creative, energetic and digitally confident individual who is passionate about social media, storytelling, photography, videography and marketing. The successful candidate will work closely with the school’s Marketing Committee and staff to promote the school, capture school life and assist in developing engaging content for our digital platforms.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to gain practical, hands-on experience in social media management, digital marketing, content creation and communications within a dynamic school environment.

Minimum Requirements:

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be studying towards, or have completed, a qualification in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design or a related field.
  • Have a genuine interest in social media, marketing and digital content creation.
  • Have experience using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
  • Have experience or a strong interest in photography and videography.
  • Be comfortable creating short-form video content, including Reels and social media stories.
  • Have basic knowledge of graphic design and content-creation tools such as Canva.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be creative, energetic, organised and able to work independently.
  • Be comfortable interacting with students, staff and parents in a professional manner.
  • Have an understanding of current social media trends and digital marketing practices.
  • Previous experience managing a social media account, creating content for an organisation, school, business, club or personal portfolio will be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will assist with:

  • Creating and scheduling engaging content for the school’s social media platforms.
  • Photographing and recording school events, activities, student achievements and everyday school life.
  • Creating short-form videos, Reels, stories and other digital content.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of the school’s social media and marketing strategy.
  • Working with the Marketing Committee to plan and develop content.
  • Creating promotional material using Canva and other relevant digital platforms.
  • Identifying opportunities to showcase the school’s academic, cultural, sporting and co-curricular programmes.
  • Supporting the promotion of school events, Open Days, enrolment campaigns and other initiatives.
  • Monitoring social media engagement and providing basic insights and feedback.
  • Keeping up to date with emerging social media trends and suggesting new content ideas.
  • Ensuring that all content complies with school policies relating to student privacy, consent, child protection and POPIA.
  • Assisting with other marketing and communication projects as required.

A portfolio of previous work is encouraged but not compulsory. Applicants may submit examples of social media posts, photography, videos, graphic designs, campaigns or other creative work they have produced.
