The successful candidate will be based at Ubuntu School in Zwide, Gqeberha, and will report directly to the School Principal. The position will commence in January 2027. Working hours are from 07:30 to 16:15, Monday to Thursday, and from 07:30 to 12:30 on Fridays.
Position Overview
Ubuntu School is seeking a committed, adaptable and learner-centred Senior Primary Teacher to join its team in January 2027. The position combines subject-specialist teaching with a pastoral, register-teacher role. The successful candidate will plan and deliver project-based, inquiry-led instruction within a student-centred, trauma-informed classroom and serve as the Grade 7 Register/Form Teacher.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver instruction across assigned subjects for Grades 6 and 7, currently including English Home Language, isiXhosa First Additional Language, Social Sciences and Economic and Management Sciences (EMS).
- Lead daily CREW sessions for the assigned register class.
- Develop and deliver differentiated, inquiry-based and project-based lessons that address learners’ diverse strengths and needs.
- Monitor learner progress on the IXL learning platform for assigned subjects and grades.
- Evaluate learners’ academic growth through formative and summative assessments, maintain accurate records and prepare progress reports.
- Participate in the standardisation and moderation of Senior Primary assessments each term.
- Run and supervise the Book Club programme.
- Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers regarding learner progress and support needs.
- Establish and maintain a safe, organised and positive learning environment.
- Integrate technology to support teaching and learning.
- Follow Ubuntu School’s Effective Teaching Standards and participate fully in Professional Learning Communities.
- Uphold school policies, SACE professional ethics and the confidentiality of learner information.
Minimum requirements
- BEd or PGCE in Senior Phase or GET Phase and SACE registration.
- Knowledge of CAPS Intermediate and Senior Phase requirements.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong classroom-management, organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multi-subject, multi-grade teaching and pastoral duties.
Confidence using email, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. - Strong alignment with Ubuntu School’s mission and vision.
The following will be advantageous
- At least two years’ teaching experience and an Intermediate or Senior Phase specialisation.
- A strong background in English, Social Sciences or EMS.
- Proficiency in isiXhosa, if included in the final subject allocation.
- Experience with IXL, project-based, inquiry-led or trauma-informed teaching.
