Job Description

Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging, challenging and differentiated lessons aligned with the school curriculum and educational approach.
- Create a positive learning environment in which students are motivated, supported and challenged.
- Use appropriate teaching strategies, technology and resources to enhance learning.
- Monitor student progress and provide additional academic support where required.
- Identify opportunities for enrichment, extension and the development of critical thinking, agency and future-focused skills.
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan, reflect and improve teaching practice.
- Remain current with developments in education and participate actively in professional development.
- Assessment and Reporting
- Assess, record and monitor student progress accurately and consistently.
- Use assessment data to inform teaching and support each student’s learning journey.
- Provide meaningful and timely feedback to students and parents.
- Maintain accurate academic records and complete reporting requirements.
- Participate in moderation, standardisation, team marking and external assessment processes, including IEB requirements where applicable.
- Student Wellbeing and Behaviour
- Establish and maintain clear expectations for behaviour and create a respectful, inclusive classroom environment.
- Support the academic, social and emotional development of students.
- Build positive relationships with students and parents.
- Identify students experiencing barriers to learning or requiring additional support and refer them through the appropriate channels.
- Contribute to the school’s mentorship and pastoral programmes where required.
- Contribution to School Life
- Act as a positive role model and uphold the values, culture and reputation of the school.
- Participate actively in the broader life of the school, including extra-curricular activities, events, assemblies, excursions and other duties.
- Support school initiatives and, where required, contribute to admissions, marketing and community events.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the school community.
- Administration and Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain a well-organised, safe and purposeful learning environment.
- Complete administrative duties accurately and within required timeframes.
- Follow school policies, procedures and operational requirements.
- Assist with supervision, substitution and other duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) and PGCE/HDE or B.Ed., with appropriate subject specialisation.
- Valid SACE registration.
- Police clearance.
Experience
Minimum
- 3–5 years’ teaching experience.
- Demonstrates subject specialisation and experience teaching at the appropriate high school level.
Preferred
- Experience with enquiry-based and student-centred learning approaches.
- Familiarity with the IEB curriculum and assessment requirements.
- IEB examination and/or matric marking experience.
- Level 1 First Aid qualification.
