SCIENCE INTERN TEACHER – CHEMISTRY – SENIOR SCHOOL

Commencement Date: January 2027

An opportunity to teach, learn and grow within a dynamic Senior School Science Department.

Redhill School is seeking a talented, enthusiastic and ambitious qualified Science teacher with a specialisation in Chemistry to join our Senior School Science Department as a Science Intern Teacher.
This opportunity is designed for a graduate who has completed a recognised teaching qualification, including a BEd or PGCE, and who is either beginning their teaching career or has some teaching experience and would like to further develop their practice within a dynamic and academically ambitious school environment.

Redhill offers both the IEB and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in the Senior School. The successful candidate does not need to have previous IB teaching experience but must have a genuine interest in international education and be enthusiastic and willing to learn the IB Diploma Programme and develop as an IB Chemistry teacher.

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will be an active member of the Senior School Science Department and, with the support and mentorship of experienced colleagues, will:

  • Teach Science and Chemistry classes within the Senior School.
  • Work alongside and assist experienced Science and Chemistry teachers.
  • Develop their knowledge and understanding of the IB Diploma Programme, with the opportunity to gain experience in IB Chemistry.
  • Provide individual and small-group tutorials and academic support to students.
  • Assist with practical laboratory work and the development of students’ scientific and investigative skills.
  • Assist with lesson preparation and the development of teaching and learning resources.
  • Participate in the setting of tests and examinations.
  • Assist with marking, moderation and assessment.
  • Attend departmental meetings and contribute to the academic work of the department.
  • Gain further experience in curriculum delivery, assessment, classroom management and inquiry-based learning.
  • Participate in the broader academic and co-curricular life of Redhill School.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Applicants should:

  • Hold a completed BEd or relevant undergraduate Science degree together with a PGCE.
  • Have specialised in Chemistry at university level and be appropriately qualified to teach Chemistry at Senior School level.
  • Be newly qualified or have some teaching experience and be looking to further develop their skills within a high-performing school environment.
  • Have a strong command of Chemistry and a genuine passion for Science education.
  • Be willing and enthusiastic to learn the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and develop the skills required to teach IB Chemistry.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for practical, investigative and inquiry-based Science.
  • Enjoy working with young people and inspiring curiosity about the scientific world.
  • Be open to mentorship, feedback and continued professional growth.
  • Be energetic, collaborative and willing to contribute fully to the life of the school.
  • Share Redhill’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation and student-centered education.

AN OPPORTUNITY TO GROW

This is far more than an opportunity to observe experienced teachers. The successful candidate will teach, assess, tutor, participate in practical work and contribute as a member of the Science Department, while benefiting from the mentorship and experience of established educators.

Importantly, the position also provides an opportunity for a Chemistry teacher to develop experience within the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Redhill is committed to supporting the successful candidate as they develop their understanding of IB philosophy, curriculum and assessment and grow towards becoming a confident IB Chemistry teacher.

For a newly qualified teacher, it offers an exceptional environment in which to begin a career. For a teacher who already has some classroom experience, it provides an opportunity to deepen their practice, broaden their experience and add valuable IB experience to their professional development.

For an exceptional candidate who demonstrates the necessary ability, commitment and alignment with Redhill, the position could provide a pathway towards a permanent teaching role at the school.

If you are a qualified Science teacher with a strong Chemistry background who is ambitious about becoming an exceptional educator and excited by the opportunity to develop within both South African and international curricula, we would love to hear from you.
