School-Based Educational Psychologist and Private Practice Opportunity
Auckland Park Preparatory School is seeking a qualified Educational Psychologist to join our school community in a unique, flexible role combining school-based educational psychology support with the opportunity to establish and develop a private practice from the school.

We are looking for an Educational Psychologist who shares these values and understands the importance of knowing the whole child. The successful candidate will be warm, approachable and collaborative, and committed to working alongside girls, families and teachers to support both wellbeing and learning. An understanding of the importance of friendship, belonging, confidence and healthy relationships in the lives of primary school girls will be particularly valuable.
The Role
The successful candidate will work with APPS for an agreed percentage of their working time, providing educational psychology services to the school community. For the remainder of their time, they will have the opportunity to develop their own private practice from the school.
As part of the school-based component of the role, responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to a proactive and preventative approach to learner wellbeing, supporting the school to identify and respond to emerging needs.
- Running small-group interventions targeting areas such as friendship, social confidence, emotional regulation, resilience, anxiety, self-esteem and positive relationships.
- Supporting girls in navigating friendship dynamics, conflict, belonging and the development of healthy peer relationships.
- Working collaboratively with teachers and the school’s support team to identify learner needs early and develop strategies to support them.
- Supporting teachers in the development, implementation and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Providing guidance and strategies to teachers to support learners in the classroom.
- Providing individual learner support and consultation where appropriate.
- Running relevant professional development and training sessions for staff.
- Providing parent education, information sessions and workshops on topics relevant to parenting, child development, wellbeing, learning and emotional health.
- Liaising, where appropriate, with parents, external therapists and other professionals involved in supporting a learner.
Private Practice Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to become an integral part of an established school community while simultaneously establishing and growing an independent private practice in a supportive, professional school environment. The private practice may include educational assessments, consultations, psycho-educational support and remedial therapy, within the psychologist’s professional scope of practice.
Appropriate boundaries will be maintained between the psychologist’s school-based responsibilities and their private practice, with all professional, ethical, confidentiality and regulatory requirements observed.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a qualified and registered Educational Psychologist, with current professional registration.
- Has experience working with children of primary school age and an understanding of the social, emotional, developmental and learning needs of girls in this age group.
- Understands child development, learning, behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
- Is experienced in working collaboratively with teachers, parents and multidisciplinary teams.
- Is experienced in educational assessments, and IEP development and implementation.
- Is confident in facilitating training and workshops for staff and parents.
- Is committed to child safeguarding, professional ethics, confidentiality and the emotional safety of every girl.
- Is able to work collaboratively as part of a school team while also developing an independent professional practice.
- Aligns with the Christian ethos and values of APPS and is committed to contributing positively to our school culture.
