PREPARATORY SCHOOL SPORTS ASSISTANT
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking an energetic, highly organised and passionate Sports Assistant to work directly under the guidance of the Head of Sport (HOS).
The successful candidate will play an integral role in the day-to-day administration, coaching and smooth operational execution of our comprehensive co-ed sporting and Physical Education (PE) programmes. This role requires a well-rounded team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses strong administrative skills alongside hands-on coaching capability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administrative & Logistical Support to the HOS
- Assist the Head of Sport with the scheduling and coordination of seasonal inter-school league fixtures, friendly matches and internal house events.
- Assist in managing sports facilities, field allocations, equipment inventory and maintenance logs.
- Coordinate transport, catering, referee/umpire rosters and first-aid coverage for weekday fixtures and weekend sports festivals.
- Maintain accurate team rosters, match results and student participation records for reporting purposes.
- Coaching & Physical Education
- Coach and manage allocated teams (boys and girls) across seasonal co-ed sports (eg: Netball, Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Soccer, Swimming, Athletics, Tennis).
- Assist with or deliver structured, curriculum-aligned Physical Education lessons and fundamental movement/physical literacy sessions across phases.
- Assist with officiating, refereeing or umpiring fixtures as required.
- Event Management & Operations
- Assist the HOS in organising major school events, including inter-house athletics, swimming galas, sports days and hosted tournaments/festivals.
- Oversee pitch and court setups, branding, equipment distribution and breakdown for match days.
- Support visiting teams, officials and parents on fixture days – ensuring a welcoming and well-organised atmosphere.
- Student Wellbeing, Safety & Communication
- Maintain high standards of safety, supervision and discipline during practice sessions, home fixtures and away trips.
- Act as a positive mentor promoting fair play, teamwork and character development.
- Ensure compliance with school policies regarding child safeguarding, health and safety as well as POPIA.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualification: Relevant Degree or Diploma in Sports Management, Human Movement Science, Sports Science or Education (or currently pursuing).
- Teaching / SACE: SACE registration (or eligibility to register) is advantageous, particularly for PE teaching duties.
- Coaching & Officiating: Recognised coaching and refereeing/umpiring certificates in key school sports.
- First Aid: Current Level 1 or 2 First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
- IT Literacy: Proficient in MS Office / Google Workspace and comfortable learning school administration software.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with students, staff, parents and visiting schools.
- Strong organisational skills with keen attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Proactive, energetic and self-motivated with the initiative to solve problems on match days.

- Flexible working hours (willingness to work early mornings, afternoons and weekends for fixtures/tournaments).
