Waterkloof House Preparatory School (WHPS )is a traditional, Christian-based school in Brooklyn, Pretoria, with a proud legacy of shaping future leaders with care and purpose in a nurturing, close-knit environment. WHPS specialises in the education of boys from Grade 0 to Grade 7, and Pre-Prep boys and girls.
We are currently seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative person with the relevant qualifications and experience to teach class music in our Junior and Senior Preparatory Phases, and to provide musical theatre support to our Drama department.
Position Requirements:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Music Education or equivalent.
- A dynamic, energetic, and innovative individual with strong interpersonal skills, a sound work ethic, and a willingness to go the extra mile.
- Proven experience teaching class music, ideally in a preparatory school environment, with the ability to teach pupils from ECD to Senior Preparatory Phase.
- Experience and ability to teach music theory to pupils from Grade 1 to Grade 7, including the ABRSM syllabus.
- Ability to train and conduct the choirs in the Junior and Senior Phases, and conduct the orchestra and other ensemble groups.
- Strong piano accompaniment skills for performances and events.
- Experience planning, preparing, and collaborating with the Drama Department to produce music for play productions,including songs, choreography, and sound effects.
- Knowledge of sound and AV equipment to run assemblies and presentations would be advantageous.
- Willingness to perform in a staff ensemble providing background music for annual events.
- Availability for school performances and tours.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write thorough and constructive pupil reports, and to proofread report comments submitted by peripatetic staff.
- Proficient computer and IT skills.
- SACE registration.
- Available to start January 2027.
