Marketing Associate

POSITION OVERVIEW:
African Leadership Academy seeks a creative, organized, and detail-oriented Marketing Associate to coordinate day-to-day marketing activities and bring the Academy’s stories to life.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff to the CEO, the Marketing Associate will work closely with external service providers in social media, paid advertising, design, photography, and videography. This hands-on role combines content creation, project coordination, and collaboration across departments to ensure ALA’s marketing is engaging, consistent, and delivered on time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing coordination:
- Work with the Chief of Staff to translate marketing priorities into clear plans, briefs, and deadlines.
- Coordinate external service providers, supplying content, consolidating feedback, and securing approvals.
- Maintain a shared marketing calendar covering recruitment campaigns, events, and organizational priorities.
- Coordinate marketing requests across departments and ensure materials are accurate, consistent with ALA’s brand, and delivered on time.
Social media and content creation:
- Support the external social media team in developing the monthly content calendar, sharing upcoming events, organizational priorities, and story ideas.
- Provide the social media team with photographs, videos, background information, and draft copy to support their creation, scheduling, and publishing of posts.
- Capture campus events and everyday student life, and coordinate with staff and students to source timely, engaging content.
- Review social media content for accuracy and coordinate internal feedback and approvals.
- Manage the marketing inbox and support the social media team in responding to messages, comments, and inquiries.
- Manage and mentor the student media team, coordinating content assignments and reviewing their work.
- Write blog posts and stories for the ALA website, newsletters, annual report, and outreach campaigns.
- Create photography and video briefs outlining the purpose, key messages, shots, and deliverables, and coordinate shoots with service providers.
- Create simple marketing materials using Canva or similar tools.
- Keep website content current and prepare email campaigns, including images and mailing lists.
Campaigns and reporting:
- Coordinate marketing campaigns for the Two-Year Diploma Program, Global Scholars Program, and other ALA initiatives.
- Work with paid advertising providers and relevant departments to prepare briefs, content, creative assets, and landing pages.
- Compile monthly performance reports and use data and audience feedback to recommend improvements.
Marketing administration:
- Maintain an organized, accessible archive of photographs, videos, and marketing materials.
- Ensure content follows ALA’s consent and safeguarding requirements.
- Track service provider deliverables, invoices, and related administration.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & SELECTION CRITERIA:
(E.g. skills, knowledge, attitude needed to be effective in this role.)
Required Education and Experience:
- At least two years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, social media, or content creation.
- Experience managing or supporting social media channels and engaging professionally with online communities.
- Familiarity with Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn, digital advertising, and analytics tools.
- Working knowledge of website content management systems and email marketing platforms.

- Strong organizational skills and experience coordinating projects, service providers, and competing deadlines.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate clearly to different audiences.
- Confidence capturing content and creating materials using Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar tools.
