St Mary’s DSG, Kloof a progressive and forward-thinking private girls’ school, is situated in the beautiful suburb of Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal.
St Mary’s DSG Kloof seeks an experienced Level 2 IT Support Technician to join its IT support team. This is an internal St Mary’s appointment reporting to the IT Manager and working collaboratively with the School’s onsite technical support resources. The role provides reliable second-line support across the academic and administrative environment, resolves escalated incidents, and helps maintain secure, well-documented and dependable IT services.
Minimum Requirements:
- Senior Certificate (Matric) plus a relevant IT Certificate, Diploma or equivalent demonstrable technical experience, CompTIA A+ and Network+ (or N+).
- At least 3 years of hands-on IT support experience, including proven experience independently resolving Level 2 incidents in a structured support environment.
- Sound working knowledge of Windows desktop and server environments, Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365 administration, endpoint hardware and TCP/IP networking.
- A disciplined troubleshooting approach, strong documentation habits and the ability to prioritise competing incidents while maintaining a high standard of service.
- Clear, patient and professional communication with pupils, educators, administrative staff, service providers and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to the School’s Christian ethos, values and safeguarding responsibilities.
Advantageous:
- Microsoft role-based certification, CCNA, ITIL Foundation or an equivalent current certification.
- Experience with Microsoft Intune or another endpoint-management platform, Google Workspace for Education, Apple devices and enterprise Wi-Fi.
- Experience in an independent school, education or similarly user-focused environment.
- Practical experience supporting audio-visual systems, events and classroom technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Second-line support: Own and resolve escalated incidents and service requests involving users, endpoints, applications, connectivity and access, escalating only where specialist or vendor intervention is required.
- User and endpoint support: Support Windows 10/11, macOS, iOS/iPadOS, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace for Education, printers, peripherals and school-specific applications.
- Identity and access: Administer user accounts, permissions, groups and devices in Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft 365 under the IT Manager’s standards and change controls.
- Networks and connectivity: Troubleshoot wired and wireless networks, switching, VLANs, Wi-Fi, internet connectivity and basic cabling issues; coordinate escalations with service providers when necessary.
- Deployment and maintenance: Prepare, configure, deploy and maintain computers, mobile devices, classroom technology and shared equipment, including patching and software installation.
- Security and resilience: Assist with endpoint security, patch compliance, backup monitoring, incident response and remediation activities in accordance with school policies.
- Audio-visual support: Set up and support classroom, meeting and event audio-visual equipment, including occasional support outside normal school hours by prior arrangement.
- Service management: Maintain accurate support tickets, technical documentation, procedures, asset records and handover notes, and contribute to IT projects and continuous improvement.
