The successful candidate will be based at Ubuntu School in Zwide, Gqeberha, and will report directly to the School Principal. The position will commence in January 2027. Working hours are from 07:30 to 16:15, Monday to Thursday, and from 07:30 to 12:30 on Fridays.
Position Overview
Ubuntu School is seeking a full time IT and CAT Teacher (FET Phase) who will be responsible for delivering Information Technology and Computer Applications Technology (CAT) instruction across the FET phase as the high school grows to Grade 12 in the years ahead. During the school’s growth period, the role also carries temporary responsibility for Grade 8–9 Mathematics, providing continuity while the school builds toward full capacity.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver Information Technology and CAT instruction across the FET phase, currently Grade 10, growing to include Grade 11 and Grade 12 as the high school phases in line with the CAPS IT and CAT curricula.
- Provide Grade 8–9 Mathematics instruction as a temporary holding arrangement while the school builds toward full capacity
- Lead daily Advisory sessions for an assigned grade, supporting Academic Advocacy, Personal Agency and Future Readiness.
- Maintain and manage the IT lab, including hardware, software and safe, appropriate use of technology by learners.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that provide differentiated instruction meeting the needs of all students.
- Evaluate student academic growth and proficiency through formative and summative assessments; maintain appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
- Integrate technology to support student learning across the school, beyond the IT/CAT classroom where relevant.
- Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus.
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education with a specialisation in Information Technology/Computer Science, or a relevant Bachelor’s degree (e.g. B.Sc, B.Comm, B.Eng) with a PGCE.
- A strong personal background in Mathematics is required, given the Grade 10-12 Mathematics component of the role.
- SACE Certificate (or eligibility to register).
- Strong IT/CAT subject knowledge, including relevant programming, computer applications and systems concepts.
- Strong Mathematics subject knowledge, sufficient to teach confidently at Grade 8–9 level.
- Exemplary written and oral communication skills in English.
• Knowledge of the CAPS FET IT and CAT curricula and the CAPS Senior Phase Mathematics curriculum.
The following will be advantageous
- Experience teaching IT/CAT and/or Mathematics at high school level preferred.
- Experience teaching across more than one subject area or grade level is advantageous, given the dual nature of this role.
- Comfortable managing an IT lab and integrating technology into teaching and learning.
