Founded in 1919, The Ridge School is one of South Africa’s leading independent boys’ preparatory schools. Situated on the historic Westcliff Ridge in Johannesburg and educating approximately 490 boys from Grade 0 to Grade 7, The Ridge has, for more than a century, been dedicated to developing young men of character, confidence and purpose.
Ideally, the successful candidate will be available to assume office in May 2027.

The successful candidate will combine educational vision with personal authenticity, intellectual curiosity and a deep commitment to the flourishing of every boy in their care.
Applicants should demonstrate:
- A compelling vision for boys’ education and the ability to lead a leading preparatory school in a rapidly changing world
- A proven capacity to inspire excellence across academics, sport, culture and character development
- A successful track record of fostering diversity, inclusion and transformation
- A nuanced understanding of contemporary educational practice in South Africa and internationally
- A genuine affinity for the preparatory school years and a belief in the unique potential of boys
- The ability to lead, develop and inspire high-performing teams
- Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills with boys, parents, staff, alumni and the wider community
- Sound strategic, organisational and financial acumen
- Appropriate academic and professional qualifications, together with SACE registration
- At least five years’ experience in a senior leadership position within a school
- A commitment to advancing the mission, values and Christian ethos of The Ridge School
- An appreciation of the School’s rich heritage together with the imagination and courage to shape its future
