The International School of Cape Town (ISCT) is one of the oldest Cambridge schools in South Africa and has offered the Cambridge International curriculum from Nursery to A Level since 1998. The International School of Cape Town is seeking an experienced and dynamic Mathematics educator to lead the High School Mathematics Department while teaching Mathematics up to Cambridge International A Level.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of five years’ recent experience teaching Cambridge International Mathematics, including at IGCSE, AS & A Level, and demonstrate the ability and potential to provide effective academic and departmental leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide academic and operational leadership to the High School Mathematics Department.
• Teach Cambridge International Mathematics across IGCSE, AS and A Level.
• Lead curriculum planning, development and delivery in alignment with Cambridge International standards.
• Ensure consistently high standards of teaching, assessment, moderation, reporting and examination preparation.
• Monitor curriculum coverage and analyse student-performance data to implement appropriate support, extension and improvement strategies.
• Support and mentor Mathematics teachers, promoting collaboration, accountability and professional development.
• Promote critical thinking, mathematical reasoning and problem-solving across the curriculum.
• Manage departmental resources, budgets, deadlines and administrative requirements.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and school leadership.
• Contribute to the school’s broader academic priorities, extra-curricular programme and wider activities.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet all the following requirements:

• A relevant Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as a major and a recognised teaching qualification, or a Bachelor of Education degree with an appropriate Mathematics specialisation.
• Current full SACE registration and good professional standing.
• A minimum of five years’ recent experience teaching Cambridge International Mathematics, including proven experience at IGCSE, AS and A Level.
• A demonstrated record of successfully preparing students for Cambridge external examinations.
• Sound knowledge of Cambridge curriculum, assessment, syllabus-planning, moderation and examination requirements.
• The ability to lead and develop a team, analyse academic-performance data and implement improvement strategies.
• Strong organisational, communication, interpersonal and technology skills.
• A willingness to contribute to the School’s extra-curricular programme and wider activities.

Applicants without the required five years’ Cambridge International Mathematics teaching experience, including experience at AS & A Level, will not be considered.  

Advantageous

• Previous experience as a Head of Mathematics, Head of Department, Head of Subject or in a similar academic leadership role.
• Experience leading curriculum development, mentoring teachers or facilitating departmental professional development.
• Experience managing departmental resources and budgets.
• Experience as a Cambridge examiner or participation in Cambridge subject-specific professional development.
• Experience teaching Additional Mathematics or Further Mathematics.
• Experience working in an international or high-performing academic school environment.

Pre-interview Requirements

Before an interview is confirmed, ISCT will conduct employment and reference checks with the applicant’s current or most recent direct supervisor and a previous direct supervisor. Referees may not be related to the applicant. Only candidates whose employment history and references are satisfactorily verified will proceed to interview.

Pre-employment Requirements

Before an appointment is finalised, the preferred candidate must provide:

• National Register for Sex Offenders and Child Protection Register clearances.
• Proof of current residential address.
• A South African Revenue Service personal income-tax number.
• Full disclosure of any relevant or material information that may reasonably affect ISCT’s appointment decision.
• Any additional documentation reasonably required for safeguarding, verification and onboarding.

No appointment will be finalised until all safeguarding and pre-employment requirements have been satisfactorily met.

ISCT reserves the right not to fill the position. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Applicants who have not received a response within 15 working days after the closing date should consider their applications unsuccessful.
