We are seeking a proficient, skilled and versatile musician to join our arts department in this vital part-time role.

 

Specific Working Hours and Availability

This is a strictly part-time role requiring presence on campus during the following fixed times, plus flexible availability for certain school events:

Fixed Contact Hours:

  • Mondays, Tuesdays, & Fridays: 07:30 – 08:30.
  • Thursdays: 07:30 – 08:30 (Junior Primary Choir).
  • Tuesdays: 14:00 – 15:00.
  • Class Teaching: minimum 8 classroom music lessons per week (scheduled within standard school hours).

 

School Productions, Events & Festivals: Flexibility to attend and lead choir festivals, school functions, and liturgical events over and above these hours as they occur on the school calendar.

 

Mandatory Requirement: Professional Piano Proficiency

Please Note: This role requires a proficient pianist. You will be the primary accompanist for the SP choir and school Mass. Your technical mastery, ability to transpose, and sight-reading skills must be of a professional standard. A practical audition (including sight-reading and transposition) forms the first round of the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Music (Grades 4-7): Deliver engaging lessons focusing on vocal technique, performance confidence, and musical literacy.
  • Senior Primary Choir Direction and Accompaniment: Lead the Senior Primary Choir. Conduct weekly rehearsals, select diverse repertoire, and provide piano accompaniment.
  • Junior Primary Choir Accompaniment: Provide piano accompaniment for the Junior Primary (JP) Choir rehearsal on Thursdays (07:30 – 08:30) and for their performance events.
  • Marimba Teaching: Direct and instruct the school’s marimba ensembles for our Grade 4 and 5 pupils.
  • Liturgical Music: Serve as the primary pianist for weekly Mass.
  • Arranging and School Events: Arrange music tailored to pre-teen vocal ranges for assemblies, productions, and talent shows.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A recognised degree in Music and a teaching qualification.
  • Valid registration with SACE.
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in a similar field.
  • Proven experience in choral conducting, marimba ensemble coaching, and accompanying vocalists.
  •  Advanced skills in improvisation, transposition, and sight-reading.

 

The ideal candidate should be organised, enthusiastic and suited to teaching in a girls’ Catholic school with the ability to identify and contribute to the values and ethos of the school.
