Theodor Herzl Schools, established in 1959, is an independent, co-educational, English-medium school in the leafy suburb of Walmer, Port Elizabeth. Theodor Herzl High School offers a broad-based, inclusive, and holistic education, with involvement in extra-curricular activities a prerequisite for each student.
The qualities, skills and mindset that will be looked for in the position of Head of Geography include (but are not limited to):
- Proven experience as a senior Geography teacher or the equivalent. An understanding of the Independent Education environment will be an advantage.
- Possessing energy and innovation. Making Geography come alive and be relevant for our students is a must!
- Strong interpersonal skills. This includes sound communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships at all levels.
- An ability to be a self-starter and work well independently as well as collegially.
- Demonstrating a positive, “can-do” and “go-the-extra-mile” attitude.
- Having a problem-solving attitude.
- Exhibiting knowledge of and being up-to-date with the trends in teaching Geography at the high school level.
- Good organisational management and co-ordinating skills.
- An ability to think strategically and to plan effectively.
All applicants should have the following:
- A relevant degree and a PGCE professional qualification;
- SACE registration;
- Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability and willingness to be involved in the co-curricular activities on offer at Theodor Herzl High: sporting and/or cultural;
- A proven track record in High School education;
- Understand, identify with, and contribute to the ethos of Theodor Herzl High School;
- Have sound computer skills and knowledge of and experience in integrating technology in the classroom;
- A Police Clearance Certificate and a clean reference on the Sexual Offenders’ Register
