Foundation Phase Teacher Assistant

Orion College is an English medium Remedial School in Randpark Ridge that caters to learners with diverse learning needs, neurodiversities and mixed abilities. The school offers three educational streams and therapeutic interventions from a multidisciplinary team. Orion is looking to employ a highly skilled, experienced and enthusiastic Foundation Phase teacher assistant to join our team. This person will ideally have relevant knowledge and experience working with learners with a range of learning barriers and be skilled in teaching in the Foundation Phase CAPS curriculum.
This locum post is available from 1st September 2026 to 30th November 2026
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric Certificate with a Diploma Level pass
- Full registration with SACE
- Current Police ClearancePreferred Requirements:
- Experience working in a remedial setting/ or with remedial learners with a range of learning barriers
- Studying towards a teaching qualification
- ECD qualificationCompetencies/Skills:
- Understanding of the CAPS curriculum.
- High standard of English – spoken and written.
- Reliable, patient and supportive.
- Able to use own initiative and willingness to support learners and the teachers in delivery of the curriculum.
- Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and able to work under pressure.Duties:
- In class support for learners and teachers in the Foundation Phase.
- Covering absent teachers.
- Delivery of extra-curricular activities and any other relevant duties required by the school.
- Working hours 7.15am till 2.30pm
