Assistant Bursar

The successful candidate will be responsible for the billing, collection and management of school fees and other receivables, while maintaining positive parent relationships and supporting the school’s cashflow and accounting management. The candidate will be able to perform the various functions in the finance department such as debtors, creditors, reconciliations, journals to auditing standards. This is a non-academic post, therefore normal BCEA leave policies apply. It will initially be a part-time position from 7h15 to 14h00 Monday to Friday, commencing immediately.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Bookkeeping or related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in accounting field, preferably in a school environment
  • Experience with school accounting packages (eg: EdAdmin, Pastel, Sage)
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
  • Proven experience in debtors collection, creditors management and reconciliations

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

  • Good understanding of accounting principles – within independent schools’ environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Preparation of data and analysis of reports
  • Experience in invoice processing, data capturing and document management
  • Meticulous with strong organisational skills and accurate administration skills with attention to detail imperative
  • Ability to work independently
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability
  • Able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and conduct, communication and writing
  • Willingness to promote, support and work within the Christian ethos of the school
  • Support the Finance Manager in all areas of finance/audit
