Oakley House Annual Virtual Conference

Information

Oakley House is excited to share details of their upcoming virtual conference, which brings together a panel of exceptional international specialists who will unpack the critical topic of speech and language barriers in learning. With South Africa’s rich linguistic diversity and twelve official languages, many children are still being educated in languages other than their mother tongue, a reality that significantly affects learning outcomes.

Join Oakley House for an international conversation on Speech and Language Barriers and How They Affect Learning, hosted online by Oakley House Training & Support Centre.

This year’s powerful speaker line-up brings together global expertise to transform language support in education. Dr Kia Johnson explores how cultural responsiveness can enhance stuttering support in schools, while Dr Katrina Miller offers practical strategies to bridge social communication gaps for learners. Prof. Eliza Thompson shares international clinical insights to guide responsive practices for educators and therapists, and Prof. Monique Mills examines the rich intersection of language, literacy, and identity, using African American English as a lens to better understand language variation and its relevance in the South African context.

SACE and HPCSA CPD accreditation is currently pending (TBC).
