TEACHING VACANCY: PRIMARY SCHOOL ART TEACHER

Pretoria Chinese School, an independent institution committed to academic excellence and holistic development, invites applications for the position of Primary School Art Teacher.
We are seeking a passionate, creative, and dynamic educator with a strong interest in Primary School education. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing students’ artistic skills, creativity, confidence, and appreciation of the arts within a structured, engaging, and supportive learning environment.

Minimum Requirements
The ideal candidate should:
- Hold a relevant qualification in Art, Visual Arts, Education, or a related field.
- Be registered with SACE (compulsory).
- Have experience or a strong interest in teaching Art to Primary School students.
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of age-appropriate art techniques, materials, and creative processes.
- Experience in an independent school environment will be an advantage.
- Be passionate about education, creative, self-motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Have good organisational skills and the ability to plan, manage, and assess students’ artistic development.
- Demonstrate the ability to create engaging and meaningful practical art experiences.
- Experience in integrating different cultures, themes, and artistic traditions into lessons will be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate Art and Visual Arts lessons across the Primary School.
- Develop students’ creativity, imagination, artistic confidence, and practical skills.
- Introduce students to a variety of art techniques, mediums, artists, cultures, and creative processes.
- Provide opportunities for drawing, painting, sculpture, craft, mixed media, and other appropriate artistic activities.
- Create a positive, disciplined, and supportive classroom environment aligned with the school’s values.
- Prepare and manage appropriate art materials, resources, displays, and student portfolios.
- Monitor and assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Encourage students to explore their own ideas while developing sound artistic techniques and skills.
- Contribute to school exhibitions, Arts and Culture activities, productions, events, and displays.
- Integrate basic technology and innovative approaches where appropriate to enhance creative learning.
- Contribute to co-curricular programmes and broader school activities.
- Be available for afternoon activities and occasional school events, workshops, exhibitions, and co-curricular support.
