We have a vacancy for a

Specialist Remedial Educator

Someone trained as a literacy, language and numeracy remedial therapist and who is experienced in teaching children who need additional support within a Primary School
COMMENCEMENT: JANUARY 2027

The successful applicant will:

  • have experience in teaching children who require learning support
  • have appropriate academic and professional qualifications
  • have the ability to identify with the values and ethos of the School
  • be passionate about teaching and supporting boys who need learning support
  • have suitable experience in the use of computers as an aid to teaching
  • be able to involve themselves fully in the co-curricula and extra-curricula life of the School
  • be willing to keep up-to-date with trends in the educational and emotional development of young boys
  • have a SACE registration certificate
  • experience with RAVE-O Programme advantageous
Functions as a Specialist Remedial Educator
  •  To be able to research, plan and deliver Individual Educational Plans for areas that may hinder individual learning.
  • To be able to research, plan and deliver focus group/small group sessions with identified students on a range of subjects, but specifically English and Maths.
  • To liaise with the Coordinator of Learning Support, keeping them informed about the students being mentored, including notifying them immediately of any concerns that arise in relation to the students being supported.
  • To attend school and wider-based meetings that specifically relate to the pupils that you are supporting, such as Lighthouse department meetings, pastoral care meetings and JP and/or SP meetings.
  • To maintain accurate and factual records on learning support students which measure the level/impact of your involvement.
  • To provide termly written reports on your work as a learning support/remedial teacher.
  • To provide support to parents, promoting engagement.
  • To promote positive mental health and well-being amongst pupils.
General:
  • To attend school and relevant wider-based training sessions as required or necessary.
  • To attend meetings and undertake duties as reasonably directed by the Headmaster.
  • To facilitate learning support alongside a Teacher within a conventional classroom.
  • To be involved in the professional development programme.
  •  To assist teachers with information that will aid in supporting learning experiences.
