PART-TIME PERIPATETIC GUITAR TEACHER

Waterkloof House Preparatory School (WHPS) is a traditional, Christian-based school in Brooklyn, Pretoria, with a proud legacy of shaping future leaders with care and purpose in a nurturing, close-knit environment. WHPS specialises in the education of boys from Grade 0 to Grade 7, and Pre-Prep boys and girls.
WHPS is seeking a passionate and experienced part-time Guitar Teacher to join our vibrant Music Department from January 2027. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented music educator to become part of our school community and inspire pupils through engaging, high-quality guitar tuition. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, reliable and committed to nurturing a love of music while supporting pupils to reach their individual potential.
The successful candidate will take on an established group of pupils, guiding and encouraging them as they develop their musical skills, confidence and enjoyment of music. Lessons are scheduled both during the school day and in the afternoons after school, depending on the instrument and the pupils’ timetables. The successful candidate must therefore be available to teach during the designated school hours, with the option of offering additional afternoon lessons.
Position Requirements:
- A suitable music qualification and proven experience in teaching guitar, with the ability to teach bass guitar to boys in Grades 2- 7.
- SACE registered
- Experience preparing pupils for Rock School / Trinity and/or ABRSM Music Examinations, where applicable.
- Ability to lead or support ensembles and group music-making at varying levels.
- Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills.
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
- Ability to teach additional instruments would be advantageous.
- Experience performing or participating in school ensembles, concerts or productions.
- Availability for school performances and tours.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write thorough and constructive pupil reports.
- Proficient computer and IT skills.
- A commitment to upholding the ethos, values and traditions of WHPS.
- Willingness to obtain the necessary Child Protection and Sexual Offences Register clearances.
