Unicorn Preparatory School is an independent, Christian, English-medium day school catering for boys and girls from Grade R to Grade 7. It is situated in the sub-tropical region of Tzaneen in Limpopo province.

Educational Support Teacher (Academic) Grade 4-7

Unicorn Preparatory School invites applications for the abovementioned position which will be available from 01 January 2027.

Local and National applications for a Grade 4-7 Educational Support Teacher (academic) are invited. This is a practical, hands-on academic support position for a teacher who is passionate about helping pupils overcome academic barriers and make meaningful progress. The successful candidate will work closely with class and subject teachers, particularly in English and Mathematics, to support pupils within the classroom and through individualised intervention.

The requirements for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Must have a teaching qualification (B Ed/PGCE),
  • A relevant qualification or additional training in educational support, inclusive education, learning support or a related field would be an advantage,
  • Strong knowledge of the Grade 4-7 curriculum, with particular competence in supporting English and Mathematics,
  • Demonstrated experience in providing practical, hands-on academic support to pupils, including one-on-one and small-group intervention,
  • Experience working collaboratively with class and subject teachers, including the ability to work in classrooms and reinforce concepts and skills being taught,
  • The ability to identify areas of academic difficulty and adapt teaching and support strategies to meet individual pupil needs,
  • A passion for teaching and supporting pupils who experience academic challenges, together with strong classroom management and interpersonal skills,
  • Must be computer literate,
  • Must be willing to engage in the school’s full programme, including all after hours and extra-curricular activities and some Saturdays as required by the sport programme,
  • Must be willing to work during homework periods and provide educational support in the afternoons, including individual and small-group intervention and extra lessons where required,
  • An unequivocal commitment to working as part of an accomplished team and communicating effectively with teachers and parents where appropriate,
  • A commitment to on-going personal and professional development
  • An awareness of the nature of the school and willingness to commit to its all-round ethos and extra-curricular activities,
  • Be willing to get a police clearance certificate and must have a clear criminal record,
  • Must be SACE registered,
  • Have at least 2 years’ relevant teaching or educational support experience, preferably with pupils in the Grade 4-7 age range.
  • Must have an excellent command of the English language,
