DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Bellavista School is positioned to be a reputable and relevant resource centre in the education sector. The Preparatory School is pleased to offer the position of Deputy Principal. The incumbent will report to the Principal and serve on the management team of Bellavista School.
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Student Discipline and Wellbeing
We seek an experienced educational leader to oversee student discipline, student leadership, pastoral care and wellbeing. The Deputy Principal will uphold clear behavioural expectations, manage disciplinary processes fairly and consistently and work with staff, families and support professionals to address students’ needs. The role requires sound judgement, strong interpersonal skills, reliable administration and the ability to combine firm boundaries with a culture of care, accountability and belonging. This role is in addition to all the expected duties of an educator at the school.
It does not fall in the scope of the incumbent to engage psychotherapy services.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Post graduate qualification in line with the profession
- 10 years+ in a school environment as an educator or learner support specialist
- 3- 5 years+ school leadership and management
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with a broad range of learning difficulties
- Track record of excellence in academic delivery
- Post graduate training in specific learning disabilities, counselling or remedial education
- FIE practitioner
- Current registration with SACE
- Valid passport
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
The KPAs are seen as the six main measurables for this position. There may be others. The duties may vary from time to time as per the needs of the school. It is important to note that demands on your time and the extent of your responsibility increase significantly as the role is part of the school wide management function.
Deputy Principal: Student Discipline and Wellbeing
Key performance areas for this role include:
- Student discipline and individual behaviour case management: Lead fair, consistent disciplinary processes; manage incident records, follow-up on behavioural agreements, investigations, hearings and parent correspondence.
- Teacher leadership and operational coordination: Guide staff in behaviour management and pastoral practice; administer supervision rosters, duty allocations and staff briefings, and monitor accountability for implementation and recordkeeping.
- Student wellbeing and support administration: Coordinate pastoral care and safeguarding responses; maintain confidential case records, referrals, support plans and meeting minutes, ensuring timely follow-through by staff and support professionals.
- School culture, attendance and family engagement: Lead initiatives that strengthen belonging and responsibility; oversee attendance monitoring, student leadership structures, parent meetings and regular reporting on discipline and wellbeing trends.
- School management and HOD leadership: Contribute to school strategy, policy development and operational decisions as a member of the management team; lead and hold HODs accountable for consistent discipline and pastoral practice, staff responsibilities and student support, ensuring coordinated action and timely reporting across grades.
