DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Bellavista School is positioned to be a reputable and relevant resource centre in the education sector. The Preparatory School is pleased to offer the position of Deputy Principal. The incumbent will report to the Principal and serve on the management team of Bellavista School.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Academic Management

We seek an experienced educational leader to oversee curriculum delivery, assessment and academic standards. The Deputy Principal will mentor teachers, strengthen teaching practice, monitor learner progress and manage academic systems that support effective, inclusive learning. The role requires sound professional judgement, strong organisational skills and the ability to translate the school’s remedial educational vision into consistent classroom practice. This role is in addition to all the expected duties of an educator at the school.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post graduate qualification in line with the profession
  • 10 years+ in a school environment as an educator or learner support specialist
  • 3- 5 years+ school leadership and management

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with a broad range of learning difficulties
  • Track record of excellence in academic delivery
  • Post graduate training in specific learning disabilities or remedial education
  • FIE practitioner
  • Current registration with SACE
  • Valid passport

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

The KPAs are seen as the six main measurables for this position. There may be others. The duties may vary from time to time as per the needs of the school. It is important to note that demands on your time and the extent of your responsibility increase significantly as the role is part of the school wide management function.

Key performance areas for this role include:

  1. Curriculum leadership and coordination: Lead curriculum planning, implementation and review; manage curriculum documentation, teaching allocations and schedules to ensure coherent progression across grades.
  2. Teacher management: Supervise and mentor academic staff; manage performance reviews, lesson observations, referral for professional development and follow-up on agreed actions.
  3. Student progress and academic support: Monitor achievement, coordinate support and extension and oversee student progress records, intervention plans and communication with parents.
  4. Academic administration and quality assurance: Manage timetabling, assessment calendars, examination arrangements, moderation and reporting; maintain accurate academic data and ensure staff meet documentation requirements and deadlines.
  5. School management and HOD leadership: Contribute to school strategy, policy development and operational decisions as a member of the management team; lead and hold academic or phase HODs accountable for departmental plans, staff performance, budgets and academic outcomes, ensuring coordinated implementation, efficient capture of assessment data and timely reporting.
