CHAPLAIN

Western Province Preparatory School (WPPS) is an independent Anglican school for boys. We offer a balanced and holistic education in which we aim to unlock and awaken the skills and talents of our boys by providing them with the resources to be the best that they can be. Our vision is to inspire, empower, and awaken the potential of each boy to realise his personal excellence and thereby become a solutionary for a just and sustainable world.

We are seeking a compassionate, engaging, theologically grounded and enthusiastic Chaplain, commencing 1 January 2027, to join our school community and contribute meaningfully to the spiritual, pastoral and personal development of our boys, staff and families.

Working across Grade N to Grade 7, the Chaplain will play an integral role in Religious Education, Chapel, pastoral care, Anglican worship and festivals, social responsibility and the broader life of the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Religious Education

• Teach Religious Education across Grade N–7 in an engaging, age-appropriate and meaningful manner.
• Adapt teaching and resources to meet the developmental needs of boys across the different phases.
• Encourage curiosity, reflection, discussion and an understanding of Christian faith and values.
• Provide relief teaching when required.

Chapel & Worship

• Lead and co-ordinate Chapel across Pre-Prep, Junior Prep and Senior Prep.
• Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate Chapel experiences.
• Coordinate Chapel participation, including readers and other contributions from boys and staff.
• Lead and participate in Anglican services, festivals and celebrations.
• Uphold Anglican liturgy, traditions and sacramental practice.
• Contribute to the spiritual rhythm and identity of the school throughout the year.

Pastoral Care & Community

• Provide pastoral support to boys and contribute to their spiritual and emotional wellbeing.
• Build appropriate, trusting relationships with boys across all phases.
• Be visible, approachable and actively involved in the daily life of WPPS.
• Support boys through significant moments, challenges and transitions.
• Work collaboratively with the school’s pastoral and academic teams.
• Engage appropriately with staff and families in support of the wellbeing and development of our boys.

Anglican Identity & Social Responsibility

The Chaplain will be an important contributor to the Anglican identity and ethos of WPPS, through worship, liturgy, service, pastoral care and the spiritual formation of our boys.

The Chaplain will also lead the Social Responsibility component of the school’s Community Engagement portfolio.

Through this work, the Chaplain will encourage our boys to develop a strong sense of service, generosity, compassion and active citizenship.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for a Chaplain who:

• Has a genuine passion for working with boys and contributing to their holistic development.
• Is theologically grounded and has a strong understanding of and commitment to the Anglican tradition.
• Is confident and competent in Anglican liturgy and worship.
• Is an engaging and effective teacher who can work confidently across different age groups.
• Understands the developmental needs of boys from Grade N to Grade 7.
• Is warm, approachable, compassionate and relational, while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Is an excellent communicator who can engage meaningfully with boys, staff and parents.
• Demonstrates initiative and creativity in making Chapel and Religious Education engaging and relevant.
• Is collaborative, professional and committed to the wider life of the school community.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• A Bachelor’s degree in Theology or an equivalent theological qualification is highly desirable.
• Appropriate teaching qualifications and SACE registration are required where applicable to the teaching component of the role.
• Experience teaching Religious Education and/or working in a school environment would be advantageous.
• Experience working with children across a range of developmental stages is desirable.
• Experience in an Anglican school or parish environment would be advantageous.
• Candidates should demonstrate appropriate knowledge and experience of Anglican liturgy, worship and the Anglican calendar.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a teaching demonstration as part of the interview process.
