Assistant Head of Sport
Commencement Date: Start of Term 4, 2026 – negotiable for the successful candidate
Clifton Nottingham Road invites applications for an Assistant Head of Sport. For the right candidate, this position may be combined with a Boarding Pastoral role.
Clifton Preparatory School is an independent, co-educational school offering classes from Grade 000 to Grade 7, with the option of weekly and termly boarding. Founded in 1942, the school is set on a picturesque 64-hectare estate in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
Clifton Nottingham Road seeks a passionate, energetic sportsperson and educator who loves working with children and brings a holistic view of education. The ideal candidate will support the smooth running and continued development of the school’s sporting and Physical Education programme, while contributing positively to the wider life of the school in line with our Champions of Childhood vision.
Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Sport in running and developing the sporting programme across all four terms.
- Take responsibility for selected sports as Teacher in Charge, ensuring strong organisation and effective delivery.
- Oversee and teach an engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate Physical Education programme.
- Lead and manage the Mini Sport programme, fostering confidence and enjoyment in younger children.
- Manage the administrative requirements efficiently and professionally.
- Contribute to the co-curricular life of the school and to school events and activities.
- If applicable, fulfil a boarding pastoral role by providing pastoral care, mentorship, and support to boarders, while working closely with the Head of Boarding to help create a safe, nurturing, and positive boarding environment.
- Potential opportunities to contribute to the academic curriculum, depending on department requirements.
Requirements
- Relevant teaching qualification, preferably with Physical Education specialisation.
- SACE registration and eligibility to work in South Africa.
- Experience teaching Physical Education and coaching sport across the Junior and Senior Primary phases.
- Demonstrated success in PE and Mini Sport programmes, coaching, and sports administration.
- Confident use of ICT, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Warm, reflective, and committed to professional growth and to inclusive, holistic education.
