History of SAHISA : Brave Stretch

As the 1990s drew to a close a new strategic vision for independent schools called Brave Stretch was developed in a strategic planning workshop of the ISC and presented at Conference.

  • Its primary objective was to make the ISC more ‘inclusive, diverse, relevant and public-spirited’.
  • This  became the mission statement of ISC and necessitated the  restructuring of the ISC and the HMC
  • It was decided that a new organisation called the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) would be formed as the umbrella organisation for independent schools and , there would be two constituent members being the Southern African Heads of Independent Schools Association (SAHISA) and the Southern African Bursars of Independent Schools Association (SABISA).
  • The 1999 Conference, passed a resolution to accept a new constitution and Code of Ethical Practice which provided for the establishment of SAHISA without any religious requirement for membership.
