Kearsney College is a leading independent boarding and day school for approximately 650 boys from Grades 8 to 12. The 125-acre estate is in a beautiful country setting on the edge of the Valley of a Thousand Hills, just outside Durban. Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Studying part-time towards a Bachelor of Education degree (GET / FET Phase) or has studied another degree and aims to obtain a PGCE;
  • preference will be given to those who wish to teach Mathematics, Physical Science, IT/CAT, Engineering Graphics and Design, Accounting, Business Studies or Afrikaans;
  • experience in coaching school sports would be an advantage, with a preference for the following sporting codes: rugby, water polo, cricket and basketball;
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • committed to a career in education, a passion for boys’ education and prepared to be involved in all aspects of school life.

Key Responsibilities:
Our interns are involved in all aspects of school life at a boys’ boarding school. You will be provided with on-the-job training in teaching practice in the classroom, involvement in pastoral care (boarding house, sanatorium, library and prep duties) and sports coaching all year round. Assisting with electives and clubs, involvement in cultural activities, leadership camps, and community outreach activities. You will be allocated a mentor who will guide you and evaluate your progress throughout the year to assist you in becoming a well-rounded educator.

Additional Information:

  • the intern programme is a fixed-term one-year contract. Candidates must re-apply annually;
  • accommodation is provided on our beautiful campus, within close reach of the city of Durban from the start of Term 1 to the end of Term 4;
  • male interns are required to live in single accommodation the boarding houses;
  • three meals per day and laundry service are provided during the term;
  • you will receive an annual allowance to assist with your study fees and be eligible for paid study leave;
  • you will have access to on-campus gym facilities.
