PREPARATORY SCHOOLÂ INTERSEN PHASE,
SPECIALIST AFRIKAANS TEACHER
Start date: January 2025
St Cyprian’s School seeks to appoint an experienced Intersen Phase teacher with specific expertise and knowledge in teaching Afrikaans at this level.

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Cultivate an enthusiasm for learning another language, creating engaging Afrikaans lessons to encourage language fluency and communication skills
- Integrate Afrikaans into the Inquiry-Based Learning making it relevant and applicable to the students’ lives
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that empowers students to embrace and celebrate the language
- Monitor students’ progress and provide constructive feedback to support their language development
- Actively participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated with the latest teaching and learning strategies
- Work collaboratively, including all stakeholders
Key requirements for the role:
- Inquiry-Based Teaching: Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding and implementation of inquiry-based teaching methods to encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in young children.
- Energetic passion: Ability to infuse the learning environment with energy and enthusiasm, creating a positive and engaging atmosphere for young children.
- High level of computer literacy: Ability to utilize technology to enhance the learning experience and demonstrate proficiency in using educational software and tools.
- 21st Century teaching skills: Ability to stay abreast of modern teaching methodologies and incorporate 21st-century skills such as collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking into lesson plans.
- Team player: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents, contributing to a positive and supportive school community.
- Excellent communication skills: Ability to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with both students and parents.
Candidates should have the following skills and attributes:
- Consider themselves adaptable, open to change, and illustrate creativity in their approach.
- Extremely methodical with excellent communication skills
- Show exceptional organizational skills and initiative.
- Detail-orientated
- High levels of emotional intelligence and self-awareness: ability to understand and respond to children’s needs and emotions intuitively.
