The Bulungula College (an Independent High School) is looking for a suitably qualified school principal to lead the school.


The Bulungula College, established in 2019, is a beacon of educational excellence situated in the remote rural community of Xhora Mouth in the Eastern Cape. As the first high school in the area, we offer Grades 10-12, providing no-fee access to quality education where previously there was none.

Our mission is to ensure that every learner, regardless of background, can complete their high school education and pursue further opportunities.


We are seeking a passionate and experienced School Principal to lead Bulungula College. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong commitment to educational excellence and community engagement. You will oversee all aspects of school administration, curriculum development, staff management, and foster a positive and inclusive school culture.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the school.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Develop and implement innovative educational programs and curricula.
  • Manage, mentor, and support teaching and administrative staff.
  • Foster strong partnerships with parents, community members, the Department of Education and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate school performance and implement improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with national education standards and policies.
  • Oversee budget management and resource allocation.


  • A degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field; a postgraduate qualification is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Senior School Principal.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development and educational best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a rural and remote setting, understanding the unique challenges and opportunities.
  • A passion for education and a commitment to the holistic development of students.
  • Ability to speak isiXhosa preferred.
  • Willingness to live in a deep rural community.

Bulungula College serves a community where many parents have not completed high school and face significant socio-economic challenges. Despite these hurdles, our school has achieved remarkable success, including a 100% pass rate for its second matric cohort in 2022 and a 97.2% pass rate in 2023.
