St Catherine’s School is a co-educational Catholic day school situated in Parkhill Gardens, Germiston. The school was established in 1908 by the Newcastle Dominican Sisters and educates pupils from Grade 000 to Matric. The school is registered with the I.E.B. and is a member of both I.S.A.S.A. and the Catholic Schools’ Office. St Catherine’s aims to be a leading provider of quality independent education on the East Rand.

Following the retirement of the current incumbent, we seek to appoint a dynamic Senior School Phase Principal to help shape and achieve our vision for St Catherine’s School. The Phase Principal will be responsible for leading the Senior School in collaboration with the Exco and will be accountable to the Head of School, the Dominican Sisters and the Board of Governors. The successful candidate will be required to execute the Board’s strategy and build a learning community where our pupils, teachers and parents thrive.

  • Help formulate the school’s strategic vision
  • Provide clarity to the school community on the school’s objectives
  • Ensure successful execution of the overall school strategy
  • Employ and retain talented teachers
  • Ensure that teachers are professionally developed
  • Evaluate curriculum delivery
  • Create a supportive environment
  • Build cohesion with the school’s other phases
  • Emphasise the importance of staff well-being
  • Promote instructional leadership
  • Maintain sound relationships with all stakeholders
  • Help build a strong reputation for the school within the East Rand community
  • Ensure that the school has effective internal systems, processes and policies
  • Develop, together with the Head of School, an annual operating budget

The ideal candidate:

  • Is committed to the Catholic ethos of the school
  • Recognises the role played by the Dominican Congregation within the school community
  • Operates with a strong drive to achieve superior results
  • Seeks multiple perspectives and collaborates with others to achieve determined outcomes
  • Solves problems effectively
  • Would preferably be a practicing Catholic, although all applications will be equally considered

Qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum requirement is a recognised education degree and/or a 4-year post-matric teaching qualification
  • Excellent track record
  • 7 years’ teaching experience
  • 3 years’ experience in a senior management role
  • Demonstrated success with school improvement initiatives
  • Advanced technology skills advantageous
  • A.C.E. registration
  • Current police clearance certificate
