Established in 1879, St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls is an independent Anglican School situated in Hillcrest, Pretoria. The school prides itself in achieving a balance between the spiritual, moral, academic, cultural and physical development of its learners and enjoys an excellent reputation, nationally and internationally. We provide a caring, unique and dynamic educational environment for day scholars from Grade 0 to Grade 12 and boarders from Grade 5 to Grade 12.

St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls in Pretoria is inviting applications for the following position available from January 2023:

SENIOR SCHOOL CHAPLAIN

This person should be ordained in the Anglican Church. The successful candidate would need to be approved and licensed by the Bishop of Pretoria. Working in a team, the Chaplain maintains the ethos and traditions inculcated by the Anglican Church and offers support to individual pupils and the School community as a whole through pastoral care, as well as providing Chapel services as required by the School.

Experience, Skills and Attributes Include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or further training in relevant disciplines, such as counselling, social work etc.
  • Experience working with young people, especially young women, and a demonstrated knowledge and skill in addressing their interests and concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively listen to and communicate with young women as well as multiple generations of Alumnae.
  • Experience using Zoom/Microsoft Teams for streaming live chapel would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and team-building skills.
  • Ability to see multiple perspectives.
  • Understanding of the importance of diversity and a global perspective in implementing an inclusive worldview.
  • Confident in personal faith journey and open to the journey of others.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution.
  • Ability to multi-task, word under time pressure, take initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, deal with ambiguity and contribute effectively as a member of a team.
  • Open, consultative style of decision-making.
  • Flexibility and a sense of humour.
  • Commitment and passion for furthering the work of the school and girls’ education.
