Senior Phase Educator
to commence full time duties at Bellavista School on 1 January 2025
Bellavista School is an independent preparatory school in Johannesburg for children with learning potential who are experiencing specific or generalised learning difficulties that prevent them from achieving success in a mainstream primary school environment. We aim to encapsulate every child’s strengths and promote these, whilst developing coping strategies to maximise their learning propensity. Our children go on to succeed in further high schooling and then into their preferred tertiary studies. To work at Bellavista School and in any of its subsidiary departments, a staff member must have a desire to engage intense and ongoing professional development, personal resilience, a sincere belief in the potential of every child and a strong collaborative style.
A position for an experienced high school teacher has become available in the school’s new middle school (Grade 8 & 9) project, Imagine College Birdhaven. In these grades, a mainstream curriculum is applied with allowances for good inclusive practice.
The ideal candidate will:
- hold a 4 year qualification or 3 year degree and a post graduate qualification in education and provide evidence of 5+ years experience;
- some experience in inclusive practice and experience in the field of cognitive education would be useful;
- demonstrate competence in speaking, reading and writing English;
- have technical competencies and an ability to integrate multimedia into teaching and learning;
- ideally, be competent in the Google environment, or willing to learn;
- be characterised with positive interpersonal skills, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility and accountability;
- speak easily about his or her commitment to educating young adults;
- demonstrate self-initiated problem solving abilities;
- be competent to teach an additional language;
- present with excellent communications skills;
- and, value reflective practice.
