St Peter’s College is an independent Anglican Diocesan school for boys and girls from Grade 8 to Grade 12. The school was founded in 1998 to meet the demand for a co-educational high school in northern Sandton. St Peter’s College offers an integrated and relevant South African high school education.

St Peter’s College is currently seeking to appoint a committed, reliable, and hardworking Senior Finance Manager. The Senior Finance Manager will have financial oversight over St Peter’s College, St Peter’s College Trust, and Hillsun Development herein referred to as the College. Under the direction of the Headmaster, this role is accountable to the Finance Sub-Committee (therefore Council) in respect of its responsibilities to provide financial, risk,- governance, and legal oversight of the College.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant preferably a Chartered Accountant
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a senior management role. Governance/Legal exposure would be an advantage
  • Experience in the preparation and finalisation of accounts in accordance with current South African regulations
  • Experience in cash flows and monthly management reports
  • Knowledge of strategic and financial planning including activity costing and benchmarking
  • Experience in budget preparation and reporting
  • Knowledge of current practice of internal and external auditing
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Pastel Evolution, and Payspace Payroll
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong team player with exceptional EQ
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills. Detail orientated.
  • Deadline driven and works well under pressure
  • Willingness to participate in the broader life of the College and to contribute positively to the ethos of the College

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the financial health of the College
  • Develop effective administrative and financial management services, controls, and policies
  • Maintain a strategic financial plan to track trends and requirements of the College development plan
  • Forecast future budgets focusing on sustainability
  • Manage Capex budgets and involvement in key aspects of Capex building projects
  • Oversee the purchase of supplies, equipment, and services in accordance with College policies
  • Support and guide department Heads on appropriate financial management
  • Report monthly on all finance related operational issues
  • Drive the annual budgeting process for the College
  • Lead on tax and VAT related matters
  • Ensure compliance of all statutory legislation and regulations relating to financial control, financial management, and accounting.
    • Liaise and manage external audit planning and management
    • Ensure implementation and adherence to finance policies, procedures, and systems across all departments
    • Plan the annual finance calendar
    • Attend quarterly finance committee meetings and record minutes to disseminate to all members
    • Attend Council meetings

Other Responsibilities:

  • Review contracts to ensure compliance and risk mitigation
  • Monitor, manage, and report on the school’s risk profile
  • Facilitate adherence to good governance practices
  • Manage and develop direct reports
