St John’s College is a world-class Christian, African school situated on a magnificent campus in Houghton,
Johannesburg, offering quality education from Pre-Primary to Post-Matric. The school has an outstanding
academic record, entering candidates for the examinations of the IEB and the Cambridge A Levels.

We seek to appoint a suitably qualified, conscientious and reliable team player to work in this busy school

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills to provide senior
level secretarial and administrative support. We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and adaptable team
player with the ability to provide a comprehensive, proactive and professional service. A flexible and resilient
approach is essential.

This is a maternity leave cover and employment is for the period 1 September 2024 – 10 December 2024.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Engaging and interacting with staff, parents, students and the school community in a positive manner
    and in an inclusive way.
  • Assisting the Deputy Head: Academics with clerical tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating
    calendars and sending and receiving correspondence
  • Performing school secretarial tasks
  • Undertaking general office reception duties
  • Giving friendly, professional and efficient general administrative assistance to internal and external
  • Working as part of the front-office team
  • Fulfilling general duties as required
  • Loading communications onto our App

Key Competencies:

  • Matric certificate plus 3 -5 years’ experience in general office administrative type work
  • Experience with school database management system preferable
  • Previous secretarial experience at a school preferable
  • Good command of English (verbal and written communication)
  • Exceptional administrative and organisational skills, with an eye for detail
  • Ability to prioritise, multitask and meet tight deadlines
  • Advanced computer literacy in the Google Workspace Suite

The successful candidate must have a police clearance certificate.
