St John’s College is a world-class Christian, African school situated on a beautiful campus in Houghton, Johannesburg, offering quality education from Pre-Primary to Post-Matric. The school has an outstanding academic record, entering candidates for IEB and the Cambridge A Level examinations.

We are seeking a proactive and professional School Secretary to provide confidential administrative and secretarial support to the Headmaster and contribute to the smooth running of the Preparatory School. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, strong communication abilities, and a collaborative approach while upholding the Christian ethos of the school.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Visitor and Reception Management: Welcoming visitors, maintaining a tidy reception area, and managing communication via phones and emails.
  • Confidential Administrative Support: Providing secretarial duties to the Headmaster, including filing, proofreading, and managing correspondence.
  • Database and Document Management: Managing the iSams database, updating class lists, and ensuring accurate records for student and parent contact details.
  • Event and Travel Coordination: Organising school events, coordinating staff travel for conferences, and managing bookings for school activities.
  • Sick Bay and First Aid Management: Overseeing the sick bay, providing basic first aid to students, and liaising with parents when necessary.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Administrative Experience: Proven experience in a varied administrative role.
  • ICT Proficiency: Strong skills in using Google Suite and other relevant software for office administration.
  • Organisational Skills: Excellent time management and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with a focus on handling confidential information professionally.
  • Child Safeguarding Commitment: A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

  • NQF Level 5 or equivalent; NQF Level 6 or higher preferred.
