Clifton Nottingham Road invites applications for a Preparatory School Principal
We are looking for a passionate, visionary, dynamic, and experienced leader to guide and manage our school. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction and operational management of the school. This role is ideal for a dynamic leader who has a passion for education and the ability to inspire staff and children while upholding the school’s values, mission and traditions. Please note that this is a residential position and accommodation is provided.
Clifton Prep School is an independent co-educational school offering a holistic education from Grade 000 to Grade 7, with boarders from Grade 3 to Grade 7. Founded in 1942, Clifton is set on a 32-hectare estate in the KZN Midlands, providing a unique learning experience that integrates academics, sport, and outdoor activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, inspire, and support a dedicated team of educators and administrative staff
-  Develop and implement a clear vision and strategic plan for the school’s continued success and growth, aligning with the school’s values and mission, including the championing of childhood and outdoor learning ethos
- Foster a nurturing and supportive environment where every child and staff member are encouraged to reach their personal best
- Represent the school within the wider educational community and maintain its reputation
- Promote inclusivity, diversity, and a sense of belonging among children, staff, parents and the school community
- Foster a strong and inclusive school culture that promotes academic excellence, character development, and holistic growth
- Ensure robust pastoral care structures are in place to support students’ emotional, social, and moral development
- Oversee the school’s daily operations, ensuring efficiency and adherence to policies and regulations maintaining a safe learning environment
- Encourage professional development and continuous learning among staff members
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-quality teachers committed to the school’s ethos and educational excellence
- Ensure compliance with all educational and legal requirements
- Promote co-curricular activities, including sports, arts, and cultural programmes, as integral parts of a well-rounded education
Candidate Requirements:
- B.Ed or Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PCGE) or equivalent NQF level
- Honors degree in Education or equivalent
- Current SACE registration
- A clear criminal record
- Independent Examination Board (IEB) curriculum experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Head in a preparatory or primary school setting or in a senior managerial positional within an appropriate educational setting
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- A passion for education and a commitment to nurturing young minds
