Research and Data Analyst



The Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) is seeking a suitably qualified full-time Research and Data Analyst for a one-year contract which may be renewed based on institutional need.

The key performance area of this role include:

  • Managing the ISASA Data Management System.
  • Managing the Bopa Thuto NPC Data Management System.
  • Manage and continuously improve the ISASA Salary Survey.
  • Co-manage the ISASA annual membership census.
  • Interpret and report on trends of the ISASA annual membership census.
  • Identifying and utilising big data sources to produce useful reports for ISASA’s member schools.
  • Analysing and reporting research findings and data trends to the organisation.
  • Managing and monitoring membership invoicing based on the ISASA Data Management System.

The required competencies for the successful applicant include:

  • Skills would include analytical skills, problem solving skills, interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, technical and system related skills.
  • Proficiency in data languages such as SQL, analytical languages such as SAS, and a good working knowledge of data bases, data gathering front ends, data storage, data security, data transformation techniques (ETL), data wrangling, and data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Qlikview, Excel).
  • Front end systems knowledge (i.e., the ability to set up a data gathering front end using, for example, HTML and Power Apps).
  • Ability to utilise a big data framework for automated data acquisition and analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent planning and organising skills.
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Very good writing and oral communication skills.
  • High energy levels.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Client service orientation.

The appointment is planned for 1 January 2023 at the latest.

Applicants must hold, at minimum, a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Computer or Data Science, which included Statistics within the degree. Ideally 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar role with a track record in setting up a management information system environment. Experience in an independent school environment is not essential but may be advantageous.

The remuneration package is competitive and negotiable in line with the successful applicant’s skills and experience.
