Remedial Therapist

(Independent Practitioner)

(to commence duty September / October 2025)

An opportunity exists for a Remedial Therapist to join our Academic Support Unit in the Preparatory School as an independent practitioner from September / October 2025. The remedial therapy will be provided in a private practice capacity.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • A qualification in teaching and a postgraduate qualification in inclusive / special needs / remedial education
  • Registration with SACE
  • Police, Sexual Offenders Register and Child Protection Act clearances
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role in a school setting would be an advantage
  • Remedial teaching experience in both English and Mathematics with Primary School pupils (Grades R to 7)
  • Familiarity with the NumberSense Mathematics programme, the Time2Read approach as well as synthetic phonics

Candidates should have the following attributes:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A good understanding of inclusive education as well as a sound knowledge of different educational needs and how to address these in both Foundation Phase and Senior Primary boys
  • Strong administration skills, along with the ability to effectively manage an independent practice including billing, invoicing and report writing.
  • Enjoy working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including advising teachers on supportive strategies to use within the classroom
  • Self-motivated, organized and energetic
  • A commitment to ongoing personal development and a future-orientated approach
  • An energetic and inspirational approach to boys’ therapy
  • A values-based approach to the care and wellbeing of the boys
  • The intention to work according to the school’s ethos, values and policies

Duties (not an exhaustive list):

  • Support the collaborative structure of the Academic Support Unit
  • Work closely with the pupils, parents, fellow therapists and teaching staff to assist those in need of support
  • The assessment of a boy’s learning (or possible barriers to learning) quantitively and qualitatively, and the application of knowledge and tools to support and remediate his learning
  • Provide one-on-one remedial therapy sessions focused on the specific needs of the boy concerned
  • Develop individual therapy plans, make necessary referrals and assist with implementing necessary classroom strategies in collaboration with the Head of the ASU
  • Manage and maintain pupil records – consolidating data from the classroom and therapy sessions
  • Some pro-bono work might be required at times
