St. Mark’s College, Jane Furse
Rector
We are looking for a Rector for St Mark’s College Campus, in Jane Furse, Limpopo. St Mark’s College consists of a High school and Primary school funded by the Government and built on Church land, through the inspiration and leadership of Mr Peter Anderson. The position has dual reporting to the Limpopo Department of Basic Education and to the Council, which oversees the church interests through a not-for-profit company (NPC).
The Bishop of the Diocese is a member of Council (Board of the NPC), and other members include the Principals and SGBs, the Alumni, the UK Trust, Anglican Board of Education and the Church. It is this body that seeks to appoint the Rector, with concurrency to the Principalship of the High School.
The school has started a process to becoming an Engineering & Mining Focus school, a process that the new Principal (Rector) will conclude. This process currently awaits approval from the Limpopo Department of Basic Education.
The campus also has several staff houses, boarding accommodation as well as a Pre-Primary school under the management of the Church. Applications should be submitted electronically to: jaques.pretorius@abesa.co.za
The proposed date of commencement is 1 January 2025 or later by arrangement. The deadline for applications to reach the Anglican Board of Education is 15 October 2024. Please include: a covering letter, CV, written reference from parish priest, and names of three referees from present and past employers as well as contact details.
If candidates have not heard from the Board by the end of October 2024, they should assume that their application has been unsuccessful. No further correspondence or negotiation will be entered into.
Requirements
The successful candidate:
- Should be a Christian in good standing and he/she will be expected to be committed to the vision and values of the Anglican Church. He/she must be a registered educator with at least 15 years’ experience in both education and fund raising. A post graduate qualification and experience in managing complex school structures will be an advantage.
- He or she should have good inter-personal skills, be able to provide leadership at St. Mark’s College, have courage, integrity and resilience, come with a good track record in delivery and be able to display an understanding of diversity.
- Must live on campus in a house provided.
Job Description
- To support and mentor the leadership and management at St. Mark’s.
- Build good relationships between all stakeholders.
- To exercise authority and to ensure good professional conduct throughout the school.
- To ensure the operationalizing of strategic thinking of the school Council.
- Be able to resolve conflict at the point of escalation.
- Manage the Church property and liaise with the Dept. of Education.
- Fundraising as per programme approved by Council.
- Establish a community outreach programme as may be approved by Council.
