Preparatory School

Principal

Commencing 01 July 2024

St George’s Grammar School, the oldest Independent School in Southern Africa, seeks to appoint a Preparatory School Principal to help in leading the school in the next phase of its development. The school, founded by Bishop Robert Gray in 1848, is rooted in the Anglican tradition while embracing diversity and a multi-faith environment. We mark our 175th anniversary in 2023. Our school is co-educational, inclusive, diverse and nurturing. Our Prep School is home to around 300 pupils aged from 5 to 13 (Grade Pre-R to Grade 7) and shares a campus with the High School.

The successful applicant will take full responsibility for leadership of the Prep School and will report to the Head of the School.

Expectations include:

  • A proven track record of leadership, with at least three years’ experience as a Principal or Deputy Principal in a Prep School.
  • Experience of playing a leading part in strategic planning processes in a school context.
  • Evidence of initiative: the ability to research, conceptualise, initiate projects and manage them through to successful completion.
  • An ability to understand, identify with and contribute to the ethos and values of the school.
  • Proven experience in developing and monitoring academic excellence in an inclusive environment.
  • Knowledge and insight into educational developments (locally and internationally). This includes the ability to use technology effectively in the classroom and in all other realms of school life.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of sound relationships with colleagues, pupils and parents.
  • An energetic and creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Appropriate academic and professional qualifications and registration with SACE.

The position promises the opportunity to innovate and grow and calls for determination to take the school forward to the highest levels through sound teamwork and collaboration with members of staff, pupils and parents.
