Cedar House School, Kenilworth, Cape Town, has a vision of providing young people with an expansive educational experience, one that is enduring, of lifelong value and that aligns with energised joyfulness. It currently caters for Grades 4 to 12 and writes the IEB examinations in Grade 12. It helps young South Africans engage with the country’s challenges with empathy and compassion.

Principal
This unique school requires a leader who embraces the school’s values with dynamism, academic rigour and warmth. The candidate will be a spirited humanist who has the ability to know and care for each student as an individual.
The candidate will be a qualified visionary leader with the ability to inspire and work closely with a dedicated staff and a lively student body. The candidate will be an innovative free-thinker who is willing to take calculated educational risks if these are seen to be for the benefit of the school and students.
This person should have:
- Strong communication skills
- A commitment to creating a rigorous and empowering academic environment, where students achieve and surpass their personal academic goals
- A good knowledge of current educational research, trends and discourse
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- The ability to validate and creatively utilize high levels of autonomy in the community
- Superior management and administrative skills
- Financial acumen
- Good technological competency
- A working knowledge of current mental health discourse
Qualifications and experience:
- SACE registration
- At least a four-year teaching qualification, or equivalent
- At least 10 years’ experience in school education which includes teaching, three of which must be in a senior management position
- Experience in the independent school sector is an advantage
- Experience in an IEB school is an advantage
