Organisational Description:

 The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (The Academy) is a worldclass educational platform for girls that is aimed at nurturing a new generation of dynamic women leaders. This residential boarding school is situated in Meyerton, Gauteng Province, with just over 300 students enrolled in Grades 8-12. Grade 12. Students write the Independent Examination Board (I.E.B.) NSC examination.

Minimum academic requirements and experience:

  • A BEd degree or a relevant degree with a professional teaching qualification.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in teaching Grade 12 Physical Sciences.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in teaching Grade 8 and 9 Natural Sciences.
  • Ability to successfully teach Senior Grades (a consistent average of 70% or above.
  • Proof of up-to-date registration with SACE.
  • Experience in teaching Further Studies – Science will be an advantage

Knowledge, Skills and Attitude:

  • An understanding of teaching Girl students.
  • An understanding of teaching students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • A passion for enquiry-based, student-centred learning.
  • An understanding of assessment frameworks in Science education.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and an ability to design the Sciences curriculum.
  • Working knowledge of the latest trends in education.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
